I'm Ready

This past week, I got my official acceptance letter from WHI! I've been accepted to go to Haiti for 12 months. I'll be working with a girl named Rachael, from D.C.  We've already touched base via email and I'm supposed to spend some time with her next month as we go through training. I'm super excited to meet her. I've been waiting to go to Haiti for over 8 months now. This entire time, I've had a heavy heart as I've waited for God to unfold his plans for me. Rachael has been waiting for three years to go to Haiti long term. Three years!!!! I have so much respect for her already! I know God has been preparing her during that time, just as He has been preparing me. We've both learned a lot during our wait.

Things in Haiti work on "Haitian time", which means things are almost always up in the air. This includes our job descriptions. So far, we'll be focusing on enrolling children and orphans in child sponsorship programs, setting up tent hospitals for the medical mission teams we'll be hosting, as well as hosting church mission teams. I'm sure as we prepare for our trip, the job description will grow and get modified.

My trip will cost $24,000.  I definitely don't have that money, so I know that God is just using this as another opportunity to show me how magnificent He is. Already, He's been nothing but faithful to me. I'm hoping in 3 months, I'll be able to look at the donation records and say, "God, you are beyond amazing. How do you do it?".

This is Chevraine Maxime. I thought his name was Jeffrey Vincen. Lol. He was my favorite child at the church in Jacmel. Just look at his smile!

An earthquake, a hurricane, and a cholera outbreak all happened within a year of the time I met him. With no word about him, I was worried, to say the least.  On the 1 year anniversary of the earthquake, we found him. He lives in a tent community with his family... but his smile is still the most precious thing ever. :D 

 

Christopher is my favorite Haitian orphan.
